In the January-July period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 20.66 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 21.5 percent year on year, according to figures released by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI).

In the given period, China's new ship orders amounted to 45.73 million dwt, up 42.5 percent year on year. As of the end of July, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 153.45 million dwt, up 36.4 percent year on year and indicating an increase of 17.1 percent compared to the end of 2013.

In the January-July period, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 18.12 million dwt, down 11.9 percent year on year and accounting for 87.7 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China's new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 42.80 million dwt, up 56.7 percent year on year and constituting 93.6 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of July, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 145.01 million dwt, up 55.9 percent year on year and constituting 94.5 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
