The eyes of the world have been on Dubai during record-breaking New Year celebrations thanks to a top global developer.

The Downtown Dubai New Year’s Eve Gala, featuring fireworks, LED light and laser beam displays, organised by Dubai-based  Emaar Properties was  the world’s most-watched spectacle on the special night.

It also clinched the Guinness World Records title for the World’s Largest LED-Illuminated Facade on Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director of Emaar, says,  “The Downtown Dubai New Year’s Eve Gala is a symbol of Dubai’s positivity and its ability to inspire, unite and bring happiness to people from around the world.

“The celebration brings hope and joy for a better tomorrow and a promising new era of growth here in Dubai, a global city that provides the opportunity and environment for business and personal growth.”

The record-breaking LED-illuminated facade around Burj Khalifa spanned 32,467 square metres and the LED display area was more than three and a half times larger. It featured an impressive 70,000 LED bulbs with more than 100,000 brackets and 55,000 metres of cabling.

The fireworks, laser show and multimedia display used the world’s most advanced pyrotechnics and LED illumination technology. Around 200 skilled professionals from around the world worked on the project with more than 192,000 man-hours devoted to the gala.

More than 4.7 tonnes of fireworks were used for the display with 25,000 shots lighting up the sky. The never-before-seen pyrotechnic design of the fireworks dressed the tower in colourful rings and volcanic waves and 2015 was ushered in by a crescendo as thousands of stars lit up Burj Khalifa.
